Thomas Bozell

Thomas Bozell son of the Reverend George Bozell and Mary Ann Bishop Bozell was born in 1845 in southern Indiana. In 1850 he relocated to central Indiana in Tipton County with his family. He was schooled, reared in a religious home, and resided on a farm with his family in Atlanta, Indiana.. He was united in marriage to Emily Conaway in 1866, the daughter of William and Sylvania (Sumner) Conaway, who grew up on the Conaway homestead northeast of Atlanta, Indiana.

Emily's grandfather, Absalom Sumner, a Quaker from Highland County, Ohio, came to Indiana in a covered wagon in 1834, and purchased land for each of his children. The homestead land purchased is the present day Sumner Cemetery.

Thomas and Emily Bozell are the parents of seven children: Ida Belle 1871-1952, Ora 1875-1953, Sylvania 1879-1943, Mary 1880-1900, Grover Cleveland 1885-1891, Alonzo 1887-1899, and William Jennings 1889-1965.

Thomas was a farmer by trade and a beekeeper until his death. He was the brother of Trustee L. J. Bozell, well known throughout Tipton County, Indiana. He adored his children and was a devoted husband and father.

Thomas passed away on August 4,1897, and Emily, his widow, lived until December 15, 1928. At the time of her death she was staying with a daughter, Mrs. James Winton, in Atlanta, Indiana.

The funeral service was conducted by Reverend Webb, and internment in the family cemetery, (Sumner Cemetery). Thomas and Emily rest at the Sumner Cemetery, northeast of Atlanta, Indiana, with four of their children and other family members.
